At LIGHT, we understand that education and outreach are a crucial part of responding to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Our program, A Step Beyond Outreach, goes further than traditional community outreach to connect those affected by HIV/AIDS with medical care. We believe preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS is a twofold process through education and testing. For more information or to inquire about our linkage to care services, contact Charmaine Stern-Megginson at 443-524-0220 ext 119 or email us at cstern@lighthealth.org.
We provide immediate support.
LIGHT collaborates with several local clinics that provide us with a list of patients who have been recently diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, but have not followed up with medical appointments or have fallen out of care. Our Outreach Team is activated to respond to these matters; linking the client back into care and accompanying them to their first two medical appointments. Obtaining treatment and understanding the medical jargon associated with HIV/AIDS can be overwhelming, an area in which our Outreach Team is well versed, so we are equipped with tools to provide health education, emotional support, and planning. We firmly believe that no individual should struggle through a diagnosis alone. Our support encourages treatment adherence and provides compassion and understanding to someone receiving a new HIV diagnosis.
We focus on treatment adherence for all.
Those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS can live healthy, full and productive lives–provided they continue consistent adherence to treatment and doctor’s recommendations. If you or someone you know has fallen out of regular treatment, is struggling to receive treatment, or has mental or physical impairments that prevent them from managing their treatment, our team can work to get you or your loved one back on track and healthy. Treatment adherence is a very important tool and vital to successfully managing your HIV/AIDS care.
We educate all ages in the Baltimore City and its surrounding counties.
Our team frequently holds educational workshops and training through public school systems, faith-based organizations, and other non-profit organizations. We discuss HIV/AIDS and STI prevention and care, and work to dispel the stigmas surrounding HIV or STI positive individuals. Our team discusses the risks and realities of this disease with compassion, understanding, and facts.
LIGHT also provides education for infected and affected individuals (close family and friends) on managing treatments, health literacy, living with a diagnosis, and dispelling the myths and stigma surrounding the diagnosis. A patient with chronic disease can live a full, healthy life, but it is important to be educated on disease management and treatment adherence. We provide holistic education outside of simply what you receive in the doctor’s office.
